"Quality Early Childhood Education can close the income gap, reduce health disparities, and save taxpayers in lower health and social costs. It saves lives and saves money. Early Childhood Education is a moral imperative with an economic payoff". (Heckman, 2011)
SEEKING NEW BOARD MEMBERS
We are looking for a few individuals interested in sharing their inspiration and skill with this great organization.
This is an ideal volunteer opportunity for people who believe strongly in the importance of the early years and how quality early education impacts this.
The board meets monthly on the third Monday from 6-8pm. There are also four subcommittees of the board who meet at varying intervals dependent on member's time and schedules.
Volunteering with Youth and Family Outreach is an excellent way to support your community and make a difference in the lives of children and families of Greater Portland.
Consistency is priority one with our children. If you are considering some volunteering with Youth and Family Outreach in our classrooms, we ask that you be able to commit to no less than 6 months. This gives the children time to get to know you and understand that you will be a stable person in their classroom and someone that they can trust. Volunteers are a wonderful way to enhance the programming, allowing teachers to schedule special events on the day that they know they will have a volunteer to assist.
These are just some of the ways that we encourage the community to be involved:
· Assisting on field trips
· Reading to children
· One on one with a child that needs extra attention
· Sharing a special talent with classrooms (yoga, dance, music, foreign language, etc.)
· Clean up around our building and the neighborhood
· Landscaping both one- time projects and ongoing
· Volunteering for fundraising events
Meet Grammie. She volunteered with Youth and
Family Outreach for 12 years. She came to us through the Foster Grandparent Program. She was in our infant program four mornings per week to give babies that extra one on one that they need.
